What is a Vesda system?

VESDA is an acronym for the term Very Early Smoke Detection Apparatus, as the term indicates, this is a smoke detector that will actively collect and sample the air around it in a continuous manner. How does it work? 

A VESDA system work begins by removing dust particles from the air samples before it allows the sampled air to pass through the laser detection chamber for smoke inspection. Then a second ultra-fine stage will provide the system with an additional clean air supply to keep the detector’s optical surfaces free from contaminants, facilitating accurate calibrations and a long-lasting lifespan. After going through the filtration stage, the air sample will pass through the calibration chamber where it will be exposed to lasers to sort out any smoke molecules. In case of any identified smoke particles, the system will trigger a signal to the fire alarm control panel and set up an alert.
