Creative Writing Is Hard

Creative Writing Is Hard

It sounds fun but, as a writing student, let me be honest with you, it is not as simple or easy as it seems. It requires a lot of your brain energy and most of the time, you will feel exhausted. Not just that, it would get frustrating at times where you don’t know what you want to write or times where you do not know how to continue something you write without it sounding the way you don’t like it to. However, no matter what it is, it is up to you whether you want to major in writing or not. Because at the end of the day, you have to choose a major that you are passionate about.

Thus, if you are passionate enough about a certain major that you have been wanting to take, then you could surely get through it no matter how difficult it is. For me, I love writing so that is what kept me going through whatever went in my direction. That is why this article is not really to discourage you from majoring in writing, rather it’s to let you know of the hardships that writing students go through. To tell you it’s not always fairytales and romance scripts. It’s demanding with a whole lot of deadlines. Without further ado, here are a few reasons writing majors are hard:

Writing is tiring. It takes up so much time, it’s repetitive and it really just exhausts your mind more than you’d expect. Especially since nowadays everything is done with online classes. Yes, it’s not really a physically involved skill but have you ever sat in an uncomfortable chair for hours on end writing for what seems like ages only for your back to ache and for you to develop a literal hunch? It’s frustrating too when you’re in a rut and you do not know why you suddenly can’t write consistently anymore. You’d feel down when you go through what people call “writer’s block”. It’s hell, really. Not how the movies portray it at all. It’s frustrating and tiring.

Takes Up Time And Effort

Writing, as will any other major, takes up a lot of our time. Not just that but it will also take a lot of effort. This is because to actually come up with content that is good and unique and at the same time is really difficult. Especially since people have come up with almost everything nowadays. So, it’s hard to come up with something totally unique and something that would not be considered plagiarized. Even when you come up with a good story, most of the time it has the same plot or storyline as some other story. It’s hard because people who criticize the world of writing are brutal and they would probably say we’re “unoriginal” when it’s hard to be original anyway.

In a nutshell, majoring in writing is hard. Also, unless you have an Alpha backup system, you’d also face the risk of losing your work very easily. In short, be prepared. For anything at all, be prepared. And don’t let things like losing your progress or files bring you down. Get back up and figure it out.
